Join us for our 2nd annual Kicking Butts Off Campus Clean-Up! 
These butts are an environmental burden and damaging to the health of people and animal life. 
Last year we collected over 36,000 cigarette butts in just one hour!

DIY Makers Day in the Seuss Room at Geisel Library
The Library and the Environmental Sustainability Group hosts a DIY Makers Day celebrating EarthWeek on campus, using sustainable, non-toxic, reusable, and recyclable materials. Maker stations include make your own cleaning supplies, a button maker using recycled book covers, stress buster recycled paper craft, 3D printer, and educational resource tables. Participants will leave with a sample of a project and ideas to continue making eco-friendly products and reusable consumables on a daily basis! We hope to see you there.

Green Labs Seminar

A seminar on the latest intiatives and resources available on campus designed to save labs money and help protect the local environment

Guest Speaker: Rachael Relph, PhD

Rachael Relph is a Design for Environment specialist with the Life Sciences Solutions Group at Thermo Fisher Scientific. By collaborating with product development teams Rachael works to reduce the environmental impact of Thermo Fisher’s products across their entire lifecycle from sourcing, manufacture, transport, use and end-of-life. Prior to joining Thermo Fisher, Rachael completed her PhD in physical chemistry at Yale where she developed mass spectrometric and spectroscopic techniques to study gas-phase reactions. On weekends Rachael can be found exploring the outdoors with her husband and friends on a kayak, bike or with a backpack.

Guest Speaker: Allison Paradise, PhD 
Allison Paradise is the Executive Director of My Green Lab, a California-based non-profit organization. She received her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Brown University and her postgraduate degree in Neuroscience from Harvard. During the nearly ten years she spent in research, her work was primarily focused on using a systems-wide approach to create computational models of signal transduction cascades. After moving to California Allison worked as a biological imaging consultant for Leica. She joined My Green Lab last June where she currently leads the way in instituting sustainable lab practices in the scientific community.

Drum Circle

Zero Waste San Diego

San Diego Earth Fair has set a goal to become a “zero waste” event. To accomplish this, Zero Waste San Diego is looking for 300 volunteers to help educate Earth Fair attendees about recyclable materials and the benefits of recycling, such as reducing the need for landfills and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Four volunteer shifts are available. First-time volunteers must attend a training session prior to the event. Learn more
